Gear Reducer Lubrication Map
Most reducer failures start with the wrong oil or a low oil level. The right gear oil and a clean seal add years of life.

Gear Reducer Lubrication Questions
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer gears & oil sump?
We recommend HUSKEY™ Enclosed Gear Oils for normal conditions, or HUSKEY™ 15A14 Series Lube Oils where NSF H1 food-grade is required. Extreme-pressure gear oil protects tooth faces under shock load. Typical interval: Check level monthly. Change per maker or yearly.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer input shaft bearings?
We recommend HUSKEY™ Coolube Grease for normal conditions, or HUSKEY™ 775 FMG Grease where NSF H1 food-grade is required. The input side turns at motor speed. If grease-lubricated, use a high-speed bearing grease. Typical interval: Every 3 to 6 months.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer output shaft bearings?
We recommend HUSKEY™ Tuff Stuff Grease for normal conditions, or HUSKEY™ Lube-O-Seal where NSF H1 food-grade is required. Slow and heavily loaded. Needs a tough grease that stays put. Typical interval: Every 1 to 3 months.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer shaft coupling?
We recommend HUSKEY™ Coolplex Grease for normal conditions, or HUSKEY™ 775 FMG Grease where NSF H1 food-grade is required. Grid and gear couplings wear fast when they run dry. Typical interval: Every 6 months.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer shaft seals & o-rings?
We recommend HUSKEY™ LVI-50 for normal conditions, or HUSKEY™ LVI-50 where NSF H1 food-grade is required. Keeps lips soft and sealing so oil stays in and dirt stays out. Typical interval: At every seal change.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer fill & drain plug threads?
We recommend HUSKEY™ 400 Thread Sealing Compound for normal conditions, or HUSKEY™ FG-1800 Anti-Seize and Thread Sealing Compound where NSF H1 food-grade is required. Seals the threads and lets the plugs come out next time. Typical interval: At every oil change.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer daily oil check (level, water, wear)?
We recommend Luneta CMP (Condition Monitoring Pod®) for normal conditions. One-minute daily check of level, color, water and wear debris catches problems before the gears do. Typical interval: Daily walk-by; sample monthly.
What lubricant should I use on gear reducer drain port: water & sediment?
We recommend Luneta Bowl for normal conditions. Collects bottom water and sediment so it can be drained early, without an oil change. Typical interval: Drain whenever water shows.
