ISO VG ranges per ISO 3448 (±10% of the grade at 40 °C). AGMA and SAE gear equivalents are approximate. HUSKEY Enclosed Gear Oils come in 90 wt and 140 wt; FG-300 food-grade oils in 10, 20 and 30 wt.
What does ISO VG mean?
ISO VG is the viscosity grade under ISO 3448. The number is the oil’s nominal kinematic viscosity in centistokes (cSt) at 40 °C, and the oil must fall within ±10% of it. ISO VG 68 runs 61.2 to 74.8 cSt.
Is SAE 90 gear oil the same as ISO 220?
They are roughly equivalent, not identical. SAE gear grades are defined differently, so treat the conversion as approximate and check the equipment maker’s requirement.
Which ISO grade do I need for my gearbox?
Follow the gearbox maker’s plate or manual. Most industrial enclosed gearboxes use ISO VG 150 to 460 depending on speed, load and temperature. Send us the details and we will confirm the grade.
